England has qualified for the semi-finals by defeating Sri Lanka by 26 runs in the Group One match of the T20 World Cup.
England had set a target of 164 for victory but the Sri Lankan team was bowled out for 137 in the 19th over.
Harasanga de Silva played an innings of 34 off 21 balls for Sri Lanka.
Raja Paksa and Shanaka scored 26 runs each while Asalanka scored 21 runs.
England’s Adil Rashid gave away 19 runs in four overs while Chris Jordan gave away 24 runs in four overs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.
For England, Jose Butler scored the first century of the T20 World Cup and remained unbeaten on 101 runs.
Butler scored 101 off 67 balls with six sixes and six fours and remained unbeaten.
On one occasion, England scored 47 runs in 10 overs for the loss of three wickets. Butler’s lightning speed then took the score to 100 in 15 overs. Captain Ian Morgan finally scored 40 off 36 balls with the help of three sixes.
Sri Lanka’s Hasa Ranga de Silva took three wickets for 21 runs in four overs while Dashmantha Chamira took one wicket for 43 runs in four overs.
England have won all four of their matches, while Sri Lanka have lost three of their four matches and won one.
In Group One, England are first with eight points, while Sri Lanka are fourth with two points.
On the other hand, in Group Two, Pakistan leads with six points after winning all three matches, while Afghanistan is in second place with four points after winning two of the three matches.
New Zealand are third with two points after winning one of the two matches.
India have lost both their matches and are fifth.
